This was a great app, but, the developer didn’t do an upgrade to show the REM and DEEP sleep. It is showing only the DEEP, that I believe is both REM and DEEP.

I love the way it breakdown the various sleep and readiness components. I do wish there were better instructions on how to interpret some of these components.

Summary of Key Insights

AutoSleep is a popular sleep tracking app praised for its detailed sleep analysis, ease of use (especially the automatic tracking), and the absence of subscription fees. However, recent updates appear to have introduced significant bugs, causing app crashes and data inaccuracies, which has negatively impacted user sentiment. While many users appreciate the in-depth insights and visualizations, some find the UI overwhelming and confusing. Accuracy of sleep data, especially when users are relaxing in bed but not sleeping, is also a recurring concern.

Overall Rating: Based on the provided review data, the app has a generally positive sentiment, but recent issues have significantly impacted satisfaction. The score distribution shows a large skew towards positive reviews, but a considerable number of recent negative reviews indicate a potential decline in app quality.

Score Distribution:

  • 5-star: 61% (305/500)
  • 4-star: 7.6% (38/500)
  • 3-star: 2.4% (12/500)

Data & Methodology Overview

  • Data Sample Size: 500 reviews
  • Time Frame: The reviews span a considerable period, with the most recent reviews referencing issues in November 2025 and earlier reviews going back several years.
  • Analysis Methods: The analysis involved sentiment analysis (identifying positive, negative, and neutral opinions), keyword extraction (identifying frequently mentioned terms and issues), and trend analysis (identifying recurring patterns and changes in user sentiment over time). The reviews were manually analyzed to categorize user feedback into key themes.

Key User Pain Points

  • App Crashing: Many users report that the app crashes immediately upon opening, rendering it unusable. This is a major and widespread issue, especially after recent updates.
  • Data Inaccuracy: Inaccurate sleep tracking is a recurring problem, with users reporting discrepancies between AutoSleep data and other sources like Apple Health. The app sometimes misinterprets resting time as sleep.
  • "Failed" Metrics: After recent updates, many users report that key metrics like "Sleep Fuel," "Readiness," and "Trends" display as "Failed," indicating a breakdown in data processing.
  • UI/UX Complexity: Some users find the app's user interface overwhelming and difficult to understand, especially for new users. The sheer volume of data and visualizations can be confusing.
  • Inaccurate Sleep Stage Detection: Some users report inaccuracies in detecting sleep stages (e.g., REM and deep sleep), with some believing the app combines REM and deep sleep.
  • Poor Support: Some users complain about a lack of responsiveness from the developer and generic troubleshooting advice.
  • Conflicts with Apple Health: Some users experience conflicts and discrepancies between AutoSleep and the native Apple Health app, leading to confusion about which data to trust.
